Review

Clara Margaret Czegeny's Hungarian heritage recipes cookbook is a small treasure with a big heart. It is the loving result of a desire to honour an aging parent. Gathering the best entries from her mother's memories and scribbled papers to create a cornucopia of treasured Hungarian family recipes that will delight even the most discerning palate. Helen (87) joined Clara in co-authoring this beloved, cherished Hungarian heritage recipe collection in 2005. Clara's daughter, Evangeline H.H. Mackell of Design in Bloom Photography and Graphics, is the accomplished photographer and graphic artist for the cookbook. Truly, a Three Generation Wonder! Written in a homey style and packaged in an excellent way to be very useful to the working chef or anyone interested in reading and learning about classic Hungarian food and folklore. The book is informative, fun and sensibly priced. A great buy in my books! -- Dr. Gordonn M. Balfour, Business Manager and Writer-Gideons International In Canada, Guelph, Ontario,Canada

Easy for some, with cookbooks and family recipes for quick reference, not a problem for most of us. Imagine, however, that the creative chef and her secret recipes has most ingredients and methods for preparation stored in her head, with only bits of information jotted down on scraps of paper and the backs of envelopes, sometimes in Hungarian, or Swedish, German, or even Russian. -- Kit McDermott, Senior Editor, Lifestyles, Brantford Expositor, Brantford, Ontario, Canada

Clara Margaret Czegeny has been named the "HOT HUNGARIAN CHEF" by all of her adoring fans and loyal followers. She is an educator, accomplished pianist, decorator and computer software engineer. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Czegeny now resides in lovely Paris, Ontario, Canada.

Clara grew up in a traditionally Hungarian home with all the classic heritage meals being prepared on a daily basis as though her parents had NEVER left Hungary! Her passion for cooking reflects who she is: someone that takes on each challenge and task with; with flair, gusto, passion and of course - a huge clatter and dozens of bowls, spoons, cutting boards, kitchen gadgets and linen tea towels! Of the three Czegeny girls, Clara (the middle) managed to stay closest to her Hungarian heritage of cooking and has mastered the "Secrets of Hungarian Cooking" as passed down from her chef mother. Compiling this heritage cookbook; recipes that otherwise would have been lost in her mother's memories, has truly been a passionate labour of love. Clara creatively weaves her own perspective and personal philosophies of life and observations into this cookbook. The humorous anecdotes are adorable and the easy instructions makes the book especially enjoyable to read. All of the final results are fool-proof! Clara incorporates her childhood memories and recollections of how she remembers life in her family home. Her talented teaching background greatly influences her writing style and her helpful nature flows through with an abundance of chef's secret hints. Clara is a definitely a twist on the movie - Good Cook, Likes Music_2005. She is a Great Musician, Loves to Cook_2006. Clara boasts, "..I managed to inherit the love of cooking and good food and to create in the kitchen from my mother, but to have inherited her amazing God-given natural gift in the kitchen, would have been indeed a great honour". Clara insists that you should always.. "Put a Little Paprika in Your Life!"
